Discover Yourself Tip #1

This is my first tip in a brand-new series of tips I am calling, “Discover Yourself”.  It is being designed to compliment the new course I am creating by the same name.  Each tip in this series will focus on a different psychic/metaphysical tool, and how you can use it for deep insight into yourself.

You may wish to check my Discover Yourself course out too!

Here’s Discover Yourself Tip #1.  Enjoy!

This Tip is about discovering YOU through the Tarot.  Any tarot spread you enjoy using can be used for this, but my two favorites are the Celtic Cross spread and the Astrological Tarot spread.  For those who like the simple, direct approach, just draw one card.  Let’s explore how to use all three of these methods to better understand aspects of yourself.

First, let’s try drawing one card. Think about something that concerns or worries you in your life right now.  Shuffle your card deck, and choose a single card.  Make a note of the card; meditate on it for insight into your problem and write down whatever pops into your head; research the card by reading it’s meaning in The Tarot Reader’s Workbook by Sandy Anastasi, or any other tarot guide books you may have available to you.  I like to explore the card’s meaning according to several different authors, comparing notes, to get more depth.  I often use the same card from different decks too, as different pictures stir up different responses in me. Pay attention to the suit of the card, or perhaps it is a Major Arcana card or a Court Card. In the traditional tarot, a Wand would tell you the core of your anxiety is action based; there could be a health or even sexual issue involved. A Cup tells you your anxiety is emotional, or perhaps your empathy or psychic ability is involved.  A Sword may direct you to focus on how you are thinking about the problem; or maybe your concern involves what others are saying.  A Pentacle suggests the core issue is financial, or spiritual, or a combination of both.  A Major Arcana card would give you deep information about the situation, show you where your soul’s journey intersects with the issue, and also tells you it really is a major thing in your life.  A Court Card would literally show you yourself, in the situation.  If you turn up as a Page, you may be facing or handling it in a childish way. Or your core issue may be concern about news.  When you turn up as a Knight, you are likely concerned with the beginning or end of something, and actions that you need to take.  A Queen or King shows you how you can take command of whatever your concern is, and bring it to where you will be comfortable with it.  Again, the card’s suit shows you the means by which command should be taken, and whether it should be in a feminine vs. masculine manner.  If the card you picked is truly representative of you, by its suit and sex, definitely research all attributes of the card for some great insight into why this situation is bringing those qualities out in you, right now.  Finally, if you drew a Court Card, it could be representative of an actual person you are concerned about.  Again, research into the various meanings of the card will give you insight into that person and your relationship with them, as well as how and why the situation should best be handled. Or perhaps your reaction to whatever is happening in your life is rooted in that person.  Wow.  Such deep insight from just one card!  Exploring yourself through the tarot is not for the faint of heart!

When working with a whole spread, such as the Celtic Cross or the Astrological Tarot, as self-exploration, I read every Court Card in the spread as an aspect of myself.  I have to tell you, I often get some interesting surprises when I see actual things I didn’t know about myself, laid out clear as day in the reading.  Yes, even though I am a woman, I read the Kings as the commanding, more masculine aspects of myself. The Queens are the softer, feminine aspects of me. The Knights are the things I want or need to begin or end, and the way that I act on them. The Pages are my child-self, or sometimes childish-self, and also how I receive and act on information.  The Major Arcana cards direct me to major opportunities the Universe is giving me to address issues important to my soul journey, and the situations uncovered in each reading show me the pattern I am moving through, in the case of the Celtic Cross, and when using the Astrological Tarot, how each area of life brings out specific aspects of myself and helps me to grow and I become conscious of how I handle them.

This may be an entirely new way for you to look at and use your tarot cards.  I hope it is, and I hope this little peak at how to use them for self-discovery and spiritual growth is as life-changing for you as it has been for me.
